Diasporas healing our home Communities and their environments

Home is where we belong

Helping Home is a space for individuals from various diasporas who are working to empower their communities of origin through capacity building for healthcare and environmental care. We do this by facilitating access to material resources, providing education, and designing or innovating systems that grant our home communities greater control over their health in a harmonious relationship with their environment.

Our COmmitments

When we rekindle a partnership with our communities, we are committed to collaborating for as long as our communities desire. Our goals are deeply rooted in our values of empowerment and sustainability— we aim for a day in which our communities will no longer require our assistance to meet their healthcare and environmental care needs. We are working with communities in India, Mexico, Ghana, and Nepal.

Diasporas

Diasporas are large groups of people who share a cultural and regional origin but are living away from their traditional homeland. With global and environmental health moving towards decolonization, how do diasporas navigate being positioned between two homes? Helping Home is a place for us to learn from each other and empower our traditional communities while navigating our complex positioning in the global and environmental health discourse.

Education, Innovation and Research

All of our education and research initiatives are driven by our communities and their needs. We believe research and education should be specific to our communities and their interests in order to allow community leaders to innovate systems that work for their unique populations. These are the ways in which our approach to research, education, and innovation can empower our communities.
